From swimming and tennis to soccer and baseball, these and other summer sports can take a toll on a growing child’s spine and entire body. As a gentle and caring pediatric chiropractor, Dr. Katie is passionate about helping young athletes stay healthy and be at their athletic best.
The Role of Chiropractic Care
As kids grow and start to play summer sports, there’s increased stress on their system.
Not only does chiropractic care help destress their spine and help them avoid injuries, it allows their body to recover better, and support their system with an increase in play, and overall stress on their spine as they’re developing and growing.
Chiropractic can also be great for making sure their body is firing and balanced as they start to play and excel. Another benefit of chiropractic care is natural pain relief. As many parents understandably don’t want to give their child pain medication, chiropractic is a safe, effective and natural way to relieve pain associated with sports injuries.
How Often Should I Bring My Child in?
For parents whose kids engage in sports, we usually recommend that they bring their child in a few times a week to start. A lot of children adapt quickly to chiropractic care so sometimes it’s once a week and then twice a month just to get their system up and running and functioning better.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
As San Diego summers can be quite hot, make sure your child is well-hydrated. Kids should drink before, during and after sports. To prevent dehydration, or, worse yet, heat-related illness, you should encourage your child to drink cool fluids before, during, and after physical activity.
