Once the condition is diagnosed, there are some things that can be done to promote healing.

  • Rest is crucial for recovery. This means physical and mental rest. Avoid activities that require mental concentration or physical exertion. Take breaks often during the day and get plenty of sleep at night.
  • Staying hydrated is also important for recovery. Drink plenty of fluids and avoid caffeine.
  • You may also need to adjust your diet while you are recovering from a concussion. Eat healthy whole foods and avoid processed foods, sugary drinks, and inflammatory foods.
  • Managing stress is also important. Stress can worsen symptoms and delay healing. Try relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, yoga, or meditation.
  • Last but not least, avoid activities that could result in another concussion. This means no contact sports or other activities that could put you or your child at risk for head injuries.
